Farming, how to maximize your returns.

Good Ole Farming

You know I see it alot when I visit players farms.. Crops that I know have been ready for hours, but its something simple like corn? Now when ever I know I have a busy day at work planned, I always plant Pumpkins.. why? Because they take a while to develop and work out to about when my first and last work break is, thus maximizing what I can sell, Quiet day at the office? then i plant things like Sugar Cane.. I know roughly on the half hour to go.. harvest.. plant.. sell.. rinse.. and repeat.

Now on weekends, people who visit me will know that I am the wheat king.. out of my 40 or so slots.. they are 100% full of wheat (when im able to keep up with demand).. I sell it at 10 for 10.. why? purely for premium items and things like mining and axes that I can use on my land.

I am level 50 and have just finished expanding all farm and sea plots.. While I havent really unlocked many town slots, you don't really need them as everything  currently fits in ok.

I also will when I get up in the morning plant things like carrots and soybeans as they are 10 and 20 mins and by the time I tend to my boat, neighborhood, townies etc. they have usually grown and allows me to then load up feed machines for my animals.

I think a fundamental mistake people to make is planting short and long crops together, because most of the time you forget about the short crops and the maximization of profit is gone due to little crops just sitting there.

When I go to bed of a night, I try and plant things like cotton, potatoes and strawberries, the latter 2 are especially hard to find on newspaper so its always good being self sufficient with them.

What I suggest taking away from this, is having a system much like I do for Busy work days, quiet work days, home and even sick days (like I am having today) so that you don't fall behind, because Hay Day although it has a fun aspect to it, it also has quite a business aspect and you want to be maximizing it as much as you can as it means you can have more money to buy things you need when they come up as you level (coffee machine, juicers etc)

Neighborhoods ... is yours working for you ?

Since joining and then taking over Hufflepuff  Common Room, my game play has jumped so much, I find that the people that I play with daily are enjoyable and I have kept a tight ship up and running (even running neighbor hood elections for a new leader in which I was re-elected unopposed.

Neighbor hoods can have a HUGE impact on the game, and I implore you to look at your own and evaluate if you are truly happy.

Everytime I log in, there is always 99+ conversations, people trading, people talking, it has made us more active and as such we have advanced and upgraded much more. Things like events, competitions and even the trade board because so much easier, when you need premium items, you have to have a great bunch of people to trade with who aren't just all out for themselves.

The other advantage of having this of course if you can also build up a network for any other games you may play and expanding out to not just Hay Day (Not that there is really such a thing)

This is not really a hints or tips post, more advice, if you cannot be 100% confident in your neighbor hood and its players.. get out now, create your own if you have a huge Facebook friend list or find a new one, you may not find the right group at first, but eventually you will find that group that you do click with :)

So, if you really want to keep building momentum with this game, then its time to take a close hard look at your situation.. and hey.. if your not in a neighbor hood yet, you are missing out :P

Newspaper. How to use the newspaper to your advantage

Newspaper and you!

At the time of writing this guide, I am level 48.
This guide as my other blogs are more just how I have and have played the game.

I found this image while on Google so I am not the copyright holder (as with all images) but I thought it was a perfect example of my point I wish to illustrate (well part off)

First off I would like to cover

Making FREE money on news paper

This one although sounding straight forward its something you really must consider how long you will hold onto an item before it sells, especially if you want to have an active stall (which we will talk about in a later tutorial) but for now we really want to focus on items that you can buy fast and sell fast.

Now alot of new players will post items up at the default price, some times its hard to know exactly what is a default price but over time you do learn such as corn 10 for 72.. sugar cane 10 for 144 or Bacon 10 for 504. Its important when seeing items such as Corn 4 for 10g to establish this maybe a new player, and as such not only selling veges at default price, but premium items as well (They advertise vegetables first because thats what default opens, but stick around for a min or two and you will usually get things that sell because they want money, now I know that sounds like praying on the weak, but really if you don't buy it someone else will right?

Alot of the time I see people who are selling 10 wheat for 1... While I do buy some stacks and re-sell for 25G, I don't suggest this if you havent expanded your shop at all as it can sometimes sit there for up to 15 mins (when using ads) in the newspaper and it can take up valueable space. How ever things that sell fast such as Muffins, Potatoes, Tomaoes, cherries, rasberries, blackberries, roasted tomatoes, coffee beans anything fish related and more, I would always buy these if below the maximum price (Not only to help fill board or boat orders and gain XP, but to sell at a profit as things like berries, cherries etc when advertised will sell at full price within 300 seconds . Anything cheap I see, I buy, I re-sell if not needed and make a profit, it amazes me that people sell things for below full price (Except Eggs in mid levels, you do at one point have a stupid excess, but my suggestion is where you can, bacon and egg pies :) )

Manipulate the newspaper to your advantage

How many times have you got so close to missing a boat on a busy day because you either didn't have what was needed, or you put up requests and no one filled them? if you don't have a big community of players, then using the news paper to your advantage is a must.

Currently Hufflepuff Common room, the trading community I am apart of has 27\30 members and we trade almost daily, but before I came apart of this group I use to nearly miss a few boats.

When ever you place an item up for newspaper, this is how it appears, as you can see the ! alerts people either to a boat or trees, now buy selling 10 soybeans for example at below 100, 99g will catch the attention of many people in the news paper and allow visitors to your farm.

Now even if you don't advertise things like necklaces, popcorn, carrot pies etc, they will still sell because you will have alot more throughput traffic through. As you can see the MOST visitors I have had in a day is 1,530 (about 2 weeks ago) and during that day I did sell premium items, but NON of them were listed. I listed things like wheat (1o for 10 and 10 for 1) I listed other items such as high demand items (Fish\butter\milk\sugar\goat cheese) at just slightly below full price, this attracts a higher number of players even after the item is sold because remember the newspaper is generated for 2-2.5 mins, so if a player is tarty and doesnt click right away, they may still visit your farm.
I would think I on a good day have at least 800-100 visitors by using the newspaper to its advantage and not only filling boat orders, but ensuring that my products have a high turn over. I have about 40ish slots (as I have alot of friends) and have purchased some, and over night when I go to bed I usually try and fill all slots with food and farming (I have a great farming blog coming) and always by morning everything is sold because not only have I presented my best products, I have ensured that every 5 mins when the newspaper blog is up, I place an ad on something, now 5 mins may seem hard, but 99.5% of phones have the times ability, just set it for 5 mins and when your alarm beeps go back in game and add another newspaper ad.

The news paper is about your biggest tool for the game, it brings people to your farm that helps generate revenue, and helps with boats and such, and of course over time if you gather followers etc that also means that you will have even more people who keep coming back to your farm.

This game is all about marketing and how you sell your farm, HayDay has made a great game, and having a business knowledge I use what I know to my advantage to get the full use out of it.

I hope this has helped you gather an insight into how I use the newspaper to my advantage to sell and get my boats done, and remember, you can never have too many people.

My next guide at this stage will be on farming in a couple of days, and how best to maximize your crops.. I have found a great way depending on the day of the week to get the best yield which also means the best amount of crops to use and or sell and make even more money

thanks for reading and I hope you found it useful :)

Paul

PS if you have any additional information of insights to the news paper I would love to hear it.

PPS, you are more then welcome to join our trading group if recruitment is open, were all a friendly bunch of players who look out for each other and always willing to trade, I do regularly remove players who I see leeching (and not contributing) as it works both ways :)

PPS The Hayday Profit and XP spreadsheet is handy

Tom. That handy little fella .... And social interacting

TOM....That little paper boy who could

So I thought I would start off by posting about TOM and how effective he can really be.
In the early levels of getting TOM for free I found him very handy (especially when getting bacon pies, as 9 bacon pies sold quite handsomely)
I also found when I saved up enough diamonds, I will get tom as much as I could, especially during boat events.

Now TOM comes in handy during boat events (especially in later levels) because sometimes you need items that are just impossible to find (either via neighborhood or maket place)

For Example, during the current boat event, I have found one sort of item to be very hard to come by, and I have got both versions of it

Lobster Tail and lobster Soup

I also highly recommend setting an alarm on your phone to go off when TOM is up... sounds silly BUT if you are paying for TOM then most certainly get value for  money out of him... I mean even if you have to duck to the loo at work for a quick 2 min break.. do it.. thats extra money ingame for you... just dont get fired from your job :P

When you don't need tom for events and specific items, I suggest buying necklaces if you need money, 10 necklaces sell for just over 7k gold and its a great way to make money if you are on top of your farm and after an event if you still have TOM hanging around.

It is also handy to have TOM for medium \hard to find items (due to demand) such as AXES and other items you may not get regularly (see above), a word of advice tho, TOM does not do premium items (EG duct tape)

Finally I wanted to quickly touch on social interaction. I have nearly 1000 Facebook friends and I interact with alot in a few different ways, by having friends via Facebook\Gamecentre it allows you to not only have extra peoples farms to visit, but also orders to fill, trees and bushes to tend to for thank you cards (which can get you diamonds)

It also allows you to get extra slots in your market place, and a topic I wish to cover later (is going to be on utilizing the market place to its FULL advantage and how to manipulate your boat orders to be done with the market place.

So In Summary, use TOM during events, but remember to use him to his full advantage to get your monies worth (especially those necklaces) they can earn you quite a bit of dosh.

While TOM maybe expensive and out of reach for players who don't buy diamonds at all, he can be handy and well worth it if you get him for a day, and spend the whole day at home.

My next BLOG will be based on the NewsPaper and what to look for to make some money and gain additional premium items others may miss

Welcome to my Hay Day Hints and tips Blog.....

Welcome to Hay Day Hints & Tips

My name is Paul and I want to share with you how I have become so successful (so far) in Hay Day, but I also want to hear YOUR tips :) I noticed many Hay Day tips around the place, many of which are outdated, I want to run an active blog in which people can interact with each other.

I run a Neighborhood called "Hufflepuff Common Room".
We are a Group (currently 30\30) people who enjoy trading and have not only an active ingame chat, but an active Facebook group. We are mostly a close group of people who have become friends.
As a result of running a tight ship (removing those who don't contribute or leech) we have had some amazing success in trades and looking after each other, which makes progressing so much easier.

In the coming months I will be posting some handy hints and tips around playing the game.
Now I can profess Im not a level expert.. but I am currently

Level 48
Barn Storage of 825
Silo Storage of 800
All items that can be unlocked are (Including 5 smelters)
521K Gold
All land expanded
Town unlocked (At 13)

I am hoping to share how I have done the above in my upcoming blogs so please subscribe and keep posted.

I also encourage you to please post your hints and tips. I will post them in my weekly newsletter blog posts (which are weekly posts containing many different things including give away prizes (basically like this post)
In my upcoming post I am going to talk about the Market place and how to play it to your advantage.
As well as TOM.

I am a 27 year old male, based in Australia, I am married (My wife plays).

For now I will leave you with this information and say please keep updated
